5 Design Tips for Small Bedrooms

Everyone wants their bedrooms to be comfortable, but when you don’t have a lot of space to work with, it can be more challenging to get the design right. While you want to avoid a room that feels cramped and cluttered, you still need to make sure you have all the basics for places to store clothes and other essential items. If you do find that you need to make use of a small bedroom, whether it’s your space to sleep or a guest room, here are some quick design tips to keep in mind.

    1. Choose Light Colors

You might prefer deeper, darker tones when it comes to your home’s décor, but small rooms can quickly feel tiny if you choose to use these shades on the walls. Lighter colors can help make this space feel larger than it is, so consider using whites, creams, or other neutral and light colors for your walls. You can always introduce splashes of more vibrant or darker tones through artwork and other accessories if you want to.

    2. Pick Smaller Beds

You might be able to fit a double bed in this space, but consider how much room it will leave for other furnishings like a wardrobe or chest of drawers if you want to include these items too. There are smaller double beds available that could be suitable or consider singles or queen-size beds for adults. If you are using this as a spare bedroom or a room for children, perhaps some solid wood bunk beds could work well, too.

    3. Consider Smart Storage Solutions

If you don’t have a lot of floor space to work with, then putting in a wardrobe and a chest of drawers might not be the best option. There are some clever storage solutions you can use, however, to help you keep the room tidy without making it feel cramped. Wall shelves rather than free-standing units are one option to explore or place boxes under the bed. Some bedframes also have storage built in. You might also find that a clothing rack rather than a bulkier wardrobe can make the room feel more spacious.

    4. Blinds Rather Than Drapes

You always need a blind or some drapes to give yourself some privacy, and this will also help to block out light from outside when you are trying to sleep. If you do have a small room, you may find that choosing a blind for the window can be better than choosing drapes. The reason behind this is that some drapes can be thicker and stick out more. Blinds can be a slimmer choice and just as effective.

    5. Ceiling Lighting

You will need to have some lighting in the bedroom, but if you don’t have a lot of space, then putting in a bedside table or desk with a lamp might not be suitable. Therefore, choosing brighter ceiling lighting might be a better option so you can illuminate the room effectively without having to use up any more floor space.

If you are decorating a small bedroom in your home and want to make it look as spacious as possible, consider these quick design tips and see if they can help you achieve this.
