New York City based musician and musician blogger Red Newman is one of the few women who have a solo project called ‘New Man’. This means that she has her own label and her own music, which is pretty awesome. The fact that she makes music for women is just as important as it is for men to support female-fronted bands. So why haven’t more major labels supported this woman? And how could they? Well, first of all, what are we supposed to do when there are so many great new female-fronted acts out there? Secondly, can you really blame them? All the major labels are biased towards their own gender-based interests and policies, which makes it difficult for new acts that don’t toe the line. Thirdly, does she look like New York City to you? Check out these photos to find out!

The Internet’s lack of gender diversity is showing
First, some history. In 2006, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) released a report identifying the top female music stars from the United States. This report had three claims in its title: “Women make up a large portion of the music industry,” “Women have long been involved in the creative process,” and “Now more than ever, music needs to reflect the historical and cultural environment in which it is created.”
It feels like we’re all still in the first decade of the digital era
Again, there is no doubt that the digital age has changed the music business. It has also made it more difficult for female-fronted acts to get their due. In fact, it’s been said that the internet has made creators and roster management easier. As a result, it’s been harder for female-fronted acts to get their music heard.
Why don’t more major labels listen to us?
At the moment, major labels are just as likely to support one of the following acts:
– Pandora/Apple Music (for the United States)
– Spotify/ iCloud (for the rest of the world)
– Google Play (for Asia Pacific)
– Sinead O’Connor’s website, Facebook and Instagram (unless…
One shouldn’t forget that there is still huge progress to be made in addressing the gender gap in the music industry. Women make up 26% of the music industry and have their work untouchable. However, there is still a long way to go.
Let Red Man Have Her Self-Released Music!
We know that Red Man is an amazing talent. One of the few female-fronted bands whose sound could be described as ‘danceable,’ this group of six consists of drummer Ariana LaMotta, singer/guitarist Julia Creamer, bassist Mimi LaGhetto, keyboardist Rebecca Linn, and chef/singer Eri Chaney. They released their self-titled album in May of this year and have yet to see success.
The fact that they have not yet become household names in the music industry makes it all the more difficult for them to do so. To be fair, there have been plenty of delays and issues with their first two albums. The band’s management has also said that they are unsure whether they will release a third album in the future.

The Internet’s lack of gender diversity is showing
The internet’s lack of gender diversity is also a huge issue. As has been shown, it’s not just the content and the tools used to access it but also the language used. There’s no way to interpret the vast number of posts on social media and forums that don’t have full grammar and grammar mistakes are made daily. It’s an awful way to get Your Message out to the world.
It feels like we’re still in the first decade of the digital era
Finally, it feels like we’re still in the first decade of the digital era. The early 2000’s were a huge groundbreaking moment for the music industry. The internet was still very new and it was very important for new acts to get their own platform. It was also the time when rap and hip-hop was at its pinnacles. New acts were being discovered and big-name talent like Kanye West, and DJ/producer Diddy were emerging. It was a great time to be a new artist, but again, the major labels don’t seem to want to be associated with today’s artists.
